Safaree Spills the Tea: "Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill's Romance Was My Personal Horror Movie"

Safaree recently let it all out on the We In Miami podcast, sharing how his ex, Nicki Minaj, moving on to Meek Mill turned his life into a real-life soap opera. In a teaser for the episode, Safaree described the industry fallout after their split as a “dark time.”

“When me and Nicki first broke up and she got with Meek, they were, like, the biggest in the world,” he began. “We were all beefing and sh*t. Imagine having two of the biggest people in the world ganging up on you. Nobody wanted to be seen with me. Nobody wanted to work with me or anything. It just made everything hard, and that was a dark time for me.”

Reflecting on the backlash post-breakup with the Pink Friday 2 star, he didn’t hold back. “I was with Nicki, we broke up,” he continued. “Her fans and certain people just wanted me to disappear. They wanted me to disintegrate.”

“But nine, 10 years later — 10, 15 TV shows later, lots of music out later, doors up later — I’m still here. Some people don’t like that,” he said. “They’re like, ‘Damn, why are people still paying attention to this guy?’”

Back in 2016, Safaree told Rap-Up that Meek was a major reason for his split with Minaj. “He definitely was a big part of why me and Nicki broke up,” he said.

That same year, Safaree and Meek also had a social media showdown on X (formerly Twitter). Safaree kicked things off with a tweet seemingly about Minaj: “You ever see a pic of someone you used to deal with and wanna send that ‘wyd bighead’ text? I hate y’all #stuntgang.” Moments later, Meek taunted Safaree on Snapchat with a photo captioned “Hey bighead” and a crying emoji. Safaree shot back, “I was just kidding, but it’s funny to see how much control I have over people I don’t know. I do this for y’all! Thanks for the love #stuntgang.”

Adding to the drama, Safaree confessed that seeing Nas kiss Minaj in her “Right By My Side” music video was a punch to the gut. “You wanna know what’s so crazy? I didn’t know it happened until the video came out,” he admitted on the Keep It a Stack Podcast. “I was hurt. I was there the whole day, so I was like, ‘Did that happen when I left for an hour or two? That’s when that scene happened, yo.’”
