Katy Perry has officially traded the spotlight for the hot seat—this time not for her catchy tunes, but for possibly getting a little too cozy with nature. The pop star, who’s been collecting public missteps like they’re rare Pokémon, is now under investigation by the Spanish government for filming her music video for *“Lifetimes”* in an ecologically protected area of the Balearic Islands. Apparently, she’s taken “leaving a mark” a bit too literally.

It seems Perry’s year has been as rocky as the sand dunes she’s accused of trampling on. After exiting *American Idol* and announcing her first album since 2020, her initial singles—produced by the ever-controversial Dr. Luke—fell flatter than a karaoke performance after midnight. And just when you thought things couldn’t get more awkward, her *“Woman’s World”* music video was mocked mercilessly, possibly because nothing screams “girl power” like collaborating with someone embroiled in a scandal involving allegations of sexual abuse.

Now, Perry’s video for *“Lifetimes,”* the second single from her upcoming album *“143,”* is facing scrutiny for its picturesque but potentially problematic filming location. The Spanish government’s not accusing her of a full-blown “crime against the environment,” but they are checking to see if her production team left more than just footprints in the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area famous for its migratory birds and delicate ecosystems. You know, the kind of place where the locals would prefer the only thing singing is the wildlife.

While the video shows Perry enjoying the Mediterranean island like it’s her own private getaway, the Spanish authorities are less thrilled about the behind-the-scenes impact. Apparently, it’s not just Katy getting her groove on—her whole crew had to get in on the ecological action, and now the government wants to know if they did more than just shake up some sand.

Perry’s representatives, likely busy trying to find an alibi, haven’t responded to the investigation yet. But with the *“Lifetimes”* video already out, and Perry blissfully unaware—or at least pretending to be—it looks like the only thing more out of place than her recent chart positions might be her in that protected park.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 20, when *“143”* drops. Whether it’ll be a triumphant comeback or just another misstep remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: Katy Perry is making waves, just maybe not the kind she intended.
