"Kevin Hart’s Former Friend Sues for Millions Over Sex Tape Scandal: ‘You Forgot the Magic Words!’"
Kevin Hart just can't catch a break from his 2017 sex tape scandal. Jonathan “J.T.” Jackson, a former friend of the comedian, has filed a civil lawsuit against Hart for breach of contract, seeking a whopping $12 million in damages. The drama, it seems, is far from over.
Back in 2018, Jackson was arrested and charged with four felonies in an alleged extortion plot involving the leaked sex tape of Hart. The charges were eventually dropped, and in 2021, Hart took to Instagram to clear Jackson’s name, saying he was “happy that that chapter in my life is over.” But Jackson is not letting Hart off the hook that easily.
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday and reported by Rolling Stone, claims Hart didn’t stick to the agreed-upon script when clearing Jackson's name. Instead of saying, “I lost someone close to me that I loved and still have very much love for, or high levels of love for, and I’m proud to say that all charges against J.T. Jackson have been dropped, and he is not guilty and had nothing to do with it,” Hart ad-libbed with, “J.T. Jackson has recently been found not guilty, and those charges have been dropped against him, and I can finally speak on what I once couldn’t.”
Hart’s omission of the phrase “had nothing to do with it” is the crux of Jackson’s lawsuit. According to Jackson, the exact wording was crucial to fully clearing his name and restoring his reputation. The complaint states, “Hart’s departure from this verbiage represents not just a contractual breach but a significant setback in Plaintiff’s arduous journey toward reputational rehabilitation and professional recovery.”
So, while Kevin Hart may have thought he’d put the scandal behind him, it appears he missed a key line in the script—and now it’s costing him. As of now, Hart has not commented on the lawsuit.
