BTS Star Jin to Carry Olympic Torch for South Korea in Paris 2024 Relay
K-pop sensation Jin, a member of the globally acclaimed group BTS, will serve as a torchbearer for South Korea in the Paris 2024 Olympic torch relay, his talent agency HYBE announced on Wednesday.
Jin's participation is intended to promote messages of “harmony” and “peace,” according to HYBE. He will join other torchbearers in traversing various historic sites in the host country, though specific details of his schedule are yet to be disclosed.
Having completed his mandatory military service in June, Jin is the eldest member of BTS. His role in the torch relay continues the Olympic tradition of including notable figures from diverse fields.
The Olympic flame for the Paris Games was ignited in Olympia, Greece, in April. The flame, carried by around 10,000 torchbearers, will reach its destination in Paris on July 26, marking the start of the Summer Games. The torch will remain lit until the Closing Ceremony two weeks later.
Notable torchbearers in the relay include France's soccer star Raphaël Varane. Over the years, the torch relay has seen the flame travel around the world, go into space, traverse underwater, and even scale Everest.
The flame will also be part of the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8, relayed by 1,000 torchbearers across 50 French towns and cities.
